Pluralism advocate, ulema
regret coverage on HKBP attack
The Pluralism Concern Movement (GPP) and the Indonesian Ulema
Council (MUI) regretted on Saturday the media coverage of an attack
on Batak Protestant Church (HKBP) leaders, which they said was
imbalance.
GPP chairman Damien Dematra said an investigation conducted by the
non-governmental organization found HKBP had been treated as a
victim due to the uneven flow of information.....

The hard-line Islam Defenders Front (FPI) softened its threat to
retaliate with violence at home if a US-based Christian group went
ahead with their “International Burn a Koran Day” on Sept. 11.
The Dove World Outreach Center from Gainesville, Florida — led by
Pastor Terry and Sylvia Jones — announced the controversial plan to
commemorate the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
“We urge that there be no burning of holy books of any religion, be
it Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism or any other. This is what we
want to emphasize,” FPI chairman Habib Rizieq said during an

Indonesians gathered Sunday outside the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta to
protest a Florida church's plan to burn copies of the Quran.
The Dove World Outreach Center in Gainsville, Florida, plans to mark
the ninth anniversary of the September 11 attacks by burning copies
of the Muslim holy text. The center describes itself as a "New
Testament church based on the Bible." It made headlines last year
when it distributed a T-shirt that said, "Islam is the devil."...

Thousands of mostly Muslim
protesters rallied around Indonesia Saturday in opposition to an
American church's plan to burn copies of the Koran on September 11.
During the weekend rallies in Indonesia, cities protested an event
planned by a small Florida church to mark the ninth anniversary of
the September 11 terror attacks in the United States.
Religious leaders of all denominations have condemned the plan by
the Dove World Outreach center in Gainesville, Florida, whose
pastor, Terry Jones, has written a book called Islam is of the
Devil. The phrase also appears on t-shirts and a Facebook page

The organization has often reacted forcefully and violently against
anything they deem anti-Islamic. They recently threatened to
retaliate at home if Dove eventually went through with the planned
burning in the US.

Indonesian Bishops Council (KWI), the Pluralism Care Movement (GPP),

(Jakarta, Friday, 13 August 2010) The
Communion of Indonesian Churches (PGI) and the Indonesian Bishops`
Council (KWI) here have donated Korans for Indonesian citizens
arrested in Australia, a spokesman for the two bodies said. About
100 Korans were presented to Indonesia`s second biggest Muslim
organization, Muhammadiyah, to be sent to Australia-based churches
and then distributed to Indonesian prisoners in that country....
